KITCHEN DESIGNER PORT MACQUARIE; NEW HOME – NORTH SHORE, 2444

DD-HIA NNSW_kitchen winner

A large contemporary kitchen that flows into a dining/living area and onto a spacious entertaining deck. A combination of natural and low-maintenance but durable building materials ensure this kitchen stays as fresh as the fish in the adjacent Hastings River in Port Macquarie. In the words of the owner “This kitchen is so inspiring I am thinking of going to cooking classes. Thank you to Michelle and DESiGNiNG Divas.”

Extract from HIA Awards press release: “Port Macquarie designer takes out top HIA awards. Michelle Burton of Designing Divas took out the titles of HIA Northern NSW Kitchen Design of the Year and HIA Northern NSW Bathroom Design of the Year at the 2015 HIA Northern NSW Housing Awards …The judges said, ‘Michelle, a previous winner in these categories from 2013, continues to design modern and breathtaking kitchens and bathrooms.’ Kitchen and Bathroom Design categories are judged first and foremost on the design, innovation and flair demonstrated by the designer. Category entries are also judged on the quality of technical elements, compliance and presentation of drawings, plans and specifications. Each year the bar is raised higher making the judging process all the more difficult. The Northern region continues to set a high standard within NSW.” read the full press release

CLIENT BRIEF

To create a kitchen space to share with a large family and visiting friends whilst taking in the relaxed atmosphere of this tranquil riverside location. Provide an uncluttered, chef-friendly, open plan, spacious and functional kitchen. Include low-maintenance natural materials to complement the stunning outlook.

DESIGN DETAILS

By a redesign of the original kitchen plan, an angled island and new layout provided better flow. The pantry was reconfigured and developed into a Butler’s style to accommodate the overflow of entertaining requirements. A strategically placed easy-access coffee station features a corner mirror splashback reflecting the stunning views. Thoughtful positioning of the LED lights ensures a feeling of light and airiness that continues even after sundown.

A custom-made granite dining table sits impressively adjacent to the kitchen, visually extending the designer kitchen and emphasizing the use of low maintenance high-quality materials. Adjacent to the food preparation bench, the computer station works well: the chef can research and read online recipes, check the weather forecast and tides, prepare the meal and take in the river views all within a couple of steps.
