KENDALL RECTORY (Accommodation on the mid-north coast, NSW, 2439)
Recently Michelle Burton, principal interior designer and stylist of DESIGNiNG Divas in Port Macquarie had the great pleasure of working with her great friend (and her former design teacher in Sydney) – Sue Sherringham – on the historic Kendall Rectory, 43 Graham Street, Kendall NSW 2439. Newly renovated and remodelled for short term holiday accommodation.
“My main design role was generally to say ‘yes’ to Sue’s colour choices and furniture and furnishing selections,” said Michelle. “Sue has a great eye and it was so much fun to hang the new artworks and move furniture and furnishings around to make sure we got the best out of the views, which are amazing from every room. I also introduced Sue to some of my local amazing interior design suppliers and trades.”
The Kendall Rectory was built around 1910 as is a great example of elegant, practical living. It just needed a few modern inclusions for comfort. Plus a restyle to reflect its former glory as a home to relax and entertain. “I am sure the Australian bush poet Henry Kendall [the village was renamed after him] used to spend many an hour in this property discussing local matters, and enjoying a glass of wine. Or two. ” said Michelle. “It certainly has a romantic poetic vibe.”
The Rectory can accommodate up to 9 guests. The well established gardens and paths in the 3,000 metre grounds features some beautiful native trees, plants and flowers. A haven for birdlife and bees.

The first guests arrived early last week and as a welcoming touch Michelle asked her amazing floral designer friend Christie McMiles – owner of the newly opened Fieldwork Flowers in Laurieton – to prepare a bunch of predominantly native flowers to welcome the first guests to the newly renovated Kendall Rectory, NSW 2443. The flower arrangement, in a beautiful vase, were stunning and so much appreciated by the guests visiting from overseas. You can see some of Christie’s work at www.fieldworkflowers.com.au Or call into her shop at 61 Bold Street, Laurieton, NSW 2443.
“It’s so nice to work with talented people. A bigger bonus when they are friends” Michell Burton added.
